When distraction appears, many people default to self-attack: “I should be better.”
The problem is mechanical. Shame increases stress, stress reduces executive bandwidth, and behavior slips further.
Acceptance is not resignation. It means seeing reality clearly, then choosing a workable next step.
Gentleness is not the opposite of progress. It is the condition that keeps progress alive.
